Google Earth and Book Search

Google Books is an ever-expanding online collection of out-of-copyright books. This is becoming increasingly integrated with Google Earth, so that if you turn on the "Google Book Search" option in Google Earth, you will see little book icons appearing all over Google Earth.  When you click on these you get a literary quotation and reference.  At the moment, this only seems to happen with major towns.  For example, if I go to Brighton UK in Google Earth, there are about 100 book icons with quotations such as this

An explanation of how this works can be found here.  While at the moment this is limited by the number of references included I can see that as it grows it wil be really interesting to see literary references for the places you visit, on holiday for example.

I'm finding other ways in which Google Earth can be useful to readers and I'll write about these on another occasion.
